New England Test captain Joe Root, stopped by at his former primary school in Sheffield yesterday for a surprise visit to launch the 2017 Yorkshire Tea, National Cricket Week which uses the #powerofcricket to inspire children to participate. Root was introduced in the school assembly before joining in a cricket session on the schools playground hosted on a 2G Flicx Skills pitch owned by the school.
Joe hosted a cricket masterclass, bowling at some of the children before taking a more familiar role with the bat. PE co-ordinator Richard France is delighted with their Flicx Pitch which they purchased a couple of years ago
“Our Flicx Pitch plays a vital role in our cricket programme; not only do the bright colours excite the children but for us its not practical to create and maintain a turf wicket at the school so the Flicx Pitch has solved this issue – whilst its portability means that we can use it on both the school playground and to convert our playing fields”
Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week will take place this year between the 19th -23rd June. Over 1,500 schools take part in the event every year and turn their timetable over to cricket. Organisers Chance 2 Shine provide schools with cross-curricular cricket lesson plans, from teaching coordinates of a cricket field in Maths to pinpointing cricket playing countries in Geography.
Clubs hold Kwik cricket competitions for their local schools, while schoolchildren in Brighton and Cornwall compete in inter-school beach cricket tournaments. Sign your school up to participate in 2017 at http://chancetoshine.org/ncw_signups
We are rushed off our feet at the moment, fulfilling orders for 2G Flicx Pitches in one of our busiest ever starts to the new cricket season. Clubs (and schools) are increasingly seeing the value of the versatility of the 2G Flicx Pitch and all the benefits that it can offer in terms of developing existing facilities or adding new capacity for both matches and training.
Your 2G Flicx Pitch will arrive in two rolls. These can be easily moved by 1 person using the 2G Flicx Safety Trolley and make for a portable resource. The same pitch can be rolled onto a grass field or astro/rubbercrumb pitch to convert it into a cricketing venue whilst you can also unzip the pitch in the middle which will give you two batting ends for junior sessions or in the nets. A 2G Flicx Pitch is around 1/3 of the price of a NTP but offers much more flexibility.
For clubs who struggle with enough resource (time or expertise) to maintain a turf wicket, the 2G Flicx Pitch, which has all weather properties, means the season can be extended by taking pressure off your main square or by using it for training or 2nd/3rd team matches. We have even found clubs using the pitch in wet conditions when play usually isn’t possible PLUS it also works indoors so you can have a flat, firm surface for nets which will last years and years provide great cost effectiveness for your clubs budget.
Our pitches also come in various coaching designs which will help develop the skills of younger players and our new multi-aged pitch (MAP) means that different age group games can be played on the same wicket, just by moving the stumps to the different crease markings. Speaking about some of our recent customers, business development manager Ashley Appleby commented
When demonstrating the 2G Flicx Pitch, clubs are always impressed with how were the pitch performs on a range of different surfaces and how easy our new product is to use. The specially formulated synthetic compound has more rubber in the moulded tile making it softer and malleable to touch, which is great for British conditions and offers good pace and bounce when used on a firm flat surface.
In addition clubs are taking advantage of our branding options to get sponsors to invest in the pitch. New digital printing means that a logo can be added into the pitch for only a small investment, but the perceived value for the partner is very high particularly with the PR opportunities available.
You lose games at the start of the season as the main square is not yet ready (generally weather related)
Throughout the season, your main square badly deteriorates due to overuse
Bad weather can hamper pitch preparation by your groundsman which is time consuming and costly
Your main square is unsafe to use, early on in the season
The weather maybe bad, but you can still play cricket
These are common problems for clubs in the UK, and this is where the versatility of the 2G Flicx Pitch really comes into its own. If your main square is not ready, you can just roll a 2G Flicx Pitch out over your square and train or play pre-season games all without damage to the surface underneath. Likewise the pitch can be rolled out next to your main square. All of this means less work for your ground-staff and less preparation time such as line painting.
Clubs with multiple teams, may wish to save their main square for the first team and the 2G Flicx Pitch is a great match and training surface. When laid on a firm, flat surface, you will get a great bounce and spin and seam too.
Even when the weather is damp, the 2G Flicx Pitch still performs … we even have clubs up in Scotland, using the pitch to extend their season and reduce the number of games being called off. This same pitch can also be used during the closed season for winter nets, on an Astroturf or Rubbercrumb to add extra facilities or zipped and split into batting ends for junior matches or Kwik cricket on your outfield. All these applications give you great value for money and the price of a 2G Flicx Pitch compares very favourably against other “artificials” with additional benefits such as the portability and versatility factors.
“Bute maintains its own ground but has always fought an unsuccessful battle against the heavy rainfall the island receives which had frustratingly led to the postponement of many fixtures over the years. All this changed in 2014 however when the club purchased a 2G Flicx wicket which has completely transformed the clubs facility situation to the extent that there were no rain affected cancellations in 2015. Practice was held every week on the clubs 2G Flicx wicket and it was even used it for the inaugural Bute beach cricket festival. Furthermore the league Bute County CC is affiliated too, the Western District Cricket Union (WDCU) approved the pitch trial and its suitability for hosting league matches.”
The 2G Flicx Pitch is the world’s most versatile, portable, cricket pitch solution suitable for adult or junior cricket, matches or training played both inside or outside. We now manufacture the pitch right here in the UK and the specially formulated synthetic compound has more rubber in the moulded tile making it softer and malleable to touch, which is great for British conditions and offers good pace and bounce when used on a firm flat surface. All the information you need about the products performance is contained in our new 2017 brochure (Click Here to download)

The 2G Flicx pitch can therefore be used on various surfaces including:
Grass (football/rugby fields, parks and open grassed areas) – cut grass short and roll pitch out
3G Astro synthetic fields (easily convert a hockey astroturf field into a cricket venue within minutes)
Refurbish old/worn astro cricket nets and NTP’s that are dead and need resurfacing
Asphalt tennis courts
School playgrounds (the batting end can be used here for informal cricket play and PE lessons)
Indoor gymnasiums and school halls
The 2G Flicx Match Pitch is unique in that it can be used not only for matches but when unzipped back into two half pitch batting ends, clubs can use for junior games on the outfield, refurbishment of old nets or taken indoors for winter nets and practice. Flicx UK offer various colours and coaching designs as well as the option to add a sponsor’s logo onto the pitch. Coimbra Knights Cricket Club are a social cricket club based in Coimbra, Central Portugal. They openly welcome touring teams from Germany, Russia and the UK as well as playing fixtures against teams in Porto and Lisbon. In addition to their home ground located centrally in the city they also play at other stadiums around the city and so for this reason Barrie Knowles the club president was looking for versatile pitch that would perform well on both grass and rubbercrumb and could be easily transported around.
Vagabonds CC Portugal Tour 2016
The 2G Flicx Pitch was the obvious choice for Coimbra and the pitch was ordered in April 2016. The pitch is left down only when the team have fixtures closely following each game and during the short winters here otherwise it is roll out and back up after matches then stored rolled up, vertically. (It is handily supplied in two equal halves by the way so it’s no problem to move or transport).
Knowles and his colleagues are delighted with their purchase.
“Our 2G Flicx Pitch has performed extremely really well so far and we have already used it on four different surfaces around the city. On grass the bounce was excellent where we pinned it down and then on three differing artificial surfaces (one which was a very old surface where the rubber was breaking up and two much newer surfaces) again we are very happy as the mat settled down nicely and quickly moulded to the under surface ahead of matches and training”

Teams that have toured Coimbra CC and have played on our new 2G Flicx Pitch have been equally impressed to the extent that Munich Cricket Club are now looking at purchasing one themselves and we are seeing more and more adult cricket clubs in Europe looking to Flicx to solve their facility issues indeed Coimbra CC are currently fundraising to extend their standard match pitch into an extra length pitch of 28.12 x 1.8m to add run offs for their bowlers onto each end of their pitch. These extensions will just clip into place without creating any bobbles or lifts – the new sections will sit perfectly flush against the existing tiles.
For many cricket enthusiasts, January see’s the start of preparations for the new cricket season with many heading indoors for winter nets. For many clubs and indoor venues such as school sportshall’s, the 2G Flicx Pitch can provide a value for money, facility upgrade and the pitch performance is far superior compared to heavy, synthetic mats often used.

The benefits of using the 2G Flicx Pitch Indoors
Increased ball bounce for slower bowlers (and it takes spin too)
The pitch has great longevity – and doesn’t need replacing yearly like synthetic mats
The 2G Flicx Pitch can be rolled up and stored on their ends which frees up space
Rolls out flat without any waves so again you can be sure of a consistent bounce and a safe surface on which to train
Customers can choose from either a traditional green batting end OR a coaching design to develop skills of younger players
Schools and clubs can add their branding to the 2G Flicx Pitch OR a sponsors logo can be added to help you fund the purchase
The photo’s above were taken by Simon Francis, Master in charge of Cricket at Warwick School. Warwick School purchased two 2G Flicx Skills batting ends at the end of 2016 to roll out over their sprung sportshall floor. For the first time, they were able to host the district trials and Francis has noticed a big improvement in the quality of their programme.
“The 2G Flicx skills pitch has been a fantastic addition for our cricketers for their winter training. Both batters and bowlers have benefited from more visual cues and targets, both individually and against each other. For our coaches it creates lots of opportunities to create challenges for bowlers and batsmen, as well as making it easier to judge where the ball pitched more easily. It has created excitement for the young bowlers as something new and interesting to interact with. We are looking forward to using these for our practices and cricket matches in the summer”
With Flicx being the world’s most versatile cricket pitch, the same pitch that you use indoors during the winter, can also be used outside in the summer. Link two matting ends together to create a full pitch or lay them on the outfield to increase your junior capacity. Roll them out in the nets or on an artificial pitch to convert it into a cricketing venue – the options are vast and very little preparation and maintenance is required.
The UAE’s leading cricket development programme held a big tournament last weekend called the ICC Academy Warriors Weekend and the event was played on the Flicx Pitches rolled out on the outfield at crickets global high performance centre.

Flicx UK were delighted to supply the Sydney Sixers with five magenta pink 4.5m x 1.4m mini cricket pitches for their recent community programme the Sixers Beach Blast. The pitches were manufactured in the UK with the exact pantone colour used plus the Sixers logo was added to the wickets which were produced to a custom specification before being shipped to Sydney.
Ahead of the new BBL season, the Sixers took to the road for an exciting new community activation programme, which saw coaches host cricket clinics for boys and girls with some special guest appearances. The 2G Flicx Pitches were rolled out on the various beach locations down the NSW coastline, providing an attractive playing surface with a good bounce and obviously pitch markings and Sixers branding too.
“ The Sydney Sixers Beach Blast program saw the Sydney Sixers reach approximately 1100 kids up and down our sixers coastline and engaged these kids in a really fun and exciting beach cricket clinic! Prior to the event started I liaised with Gary from Flicx UK who was able to create the pitches for our tour which was vital in it going ahead. Gary and the Flicx team were a pleasure to work with and met every need and requirement to ensure the pitches were correctly coloured and would arrive in time for the event.
The kids absolutely loved playing on the 2G Flicx pitches with parents and families all wanting to take photos! If it wasn’t for the pitches our tour would not have been the success that it was and the team here at the Sixers will be utilising them further with our community events, clinics and for our Fan Day here at the SCG and throughout the season”Liz McPherson / Fan, Activation and Community Manager

The 2G Flicx Pitch is the ultimate cricket match pitch but did you know you can also use this versatile surface as a coaching aid to develop the batting and bowing skills of younger players??
2G Eagle Eyed Pitch
Flicx have developed two coaching pitch designs with bright colours and targets. Choose from either the 2G Flicx Skills pitch or the 2G Flicx Eagle eyed pitch and roll it out on your outfield, in the nets, on top of another synthetic surface or convert a grass field or similar into a cricket training facility.
The Eagle eyed pitch is great for beginners … coloured sections replicate those seen on TV which is both fun and inspiring. At a basic skill level, the coloured tiles are used to develop the ability to bowl at different lengths – with good, short, full and yorker lengths marked out. These visual cues help players focus their deliveries and achieve consistency.
The Skills pitch is the next stage up in a player’s development with the targets assisting with both line and length. Coaches can encourage bowling to the off side or leg side at different lengths whilst batsmen will be able to develop decision making skills and shot selection based on where the ball is pitched.
These coaching designs are available in various lengths and as either a full pitch size or a batting end. Full pitches can be easily split into two to host two smaller mini games which is a great way add fun and challenge to your cricket training and offers great versatility and value for money for clubs and schools.
Watching the Big Bash and seeing what bumper crowds it has attracted this season, it is clear to see Australian Cricket is getting a lot right at the moment. Whilst Backyard Cricket has always been popular down under, its been taken to a whole new level this year with Channel 10’s partnership with Biggest Game of Cricket (BGOC) from the Ponting Foundation where people are encouraged to have fun playing “Australia’s favourite game” and raise funds to help young Australians and their families beat cancer.
Ten’s winning family, the Mitchell’s then hosted the likes of Gilly, Fred and Punter in a show-piece backyard cricket match at Taree in NSW and the video is fantastic if you haven’t seen it yet…
Many people go to great length’s to prepare their backyard track … hours of mowing, rolling to prepare their perfect wicket. Did you know, the Flicx Pitch can help here … you can use our 2G Flicx Pitch in the backyard with minimal preparation and it can be used both permanently or as a roll out, roll up option. We would love to get involved in the 2017 BGOC so Ricky, let us know if we can help your event next year (we would love to create a nice blue, BGOC logo’d pitch for you)
Backyard Cricket at the Mitchells
Moving closer to home in the UK perhaps its an idea that Sky Sports and our NGB could get behind this by means of boosting participation levels … NB – might need to be called garden cricket or something else given we don’t really have backyards but the sentiment remains … lots of people, enjoying cricket with their family at home and then possibly taking it to the next level and raising money for charity with a national event … What do you think?
