5 reasons your cricket club will LOVE the 2G Flicx Pitch

As cricket clubs in the northern hemisphere start to think about plans for the new cricket season, the need to create new facilities and develop existing ones is prevalent for many committees and organisations. The 2G Flicx Pitch is a problem solver in this area so here are our top 5 reasons why your club will love the 2G Flicx Pitch and what it can do for your cricket and the standard of your matches and training …

  1. It’s a COST-EFFECTIVE solution to upgrade worn or under performing net facilities – You don’t need to dig or expensive ground works. Just roll out the new 2G Flicx Pitch over the top!
  2. It’s the MOST VERSATILE cricket pitch on the market – Use it for senior or junior cricket, for matches or training, indoors or outdoors!! A multi-use pitch that will allow your club to accommodate more teams or players.
  3. It allows you to CREATE NEW CRICKET FACILITIES – A grass football or rugby field, park or synthetic field can be used to host cricket with minimal preparation and no damage to the under surface.
  4. It’s EASY TO MOVE AND USE – The 2G Flicx Pitch is a portable product and it’s possible for one person to roll it out and back up after the game using the Flicx Safety Trolley. This takes work from away from the groundsman’s busy schedule or allows nomad clubs to play at different venues.
  5. It performs well and gives GOOD PACE AND CONSISTENT BOUNCE on a range of under surfaces – The 2G Flicx Pitch delivers performance with the 2G tile being softer, it offers more grip for batsmen and turn for your spinners. Bowlers can hit the pitch hard and the ball comes nicely onto the bat. But don’t just take our word for it, here are some of our customer testimonials … https://www.flicx.co.uk/pitches/testimonials/

The growth of cricket in Spain | Torrevieja Cricket Case Study

Torrevieja Cricket Club is located in Spain’s south-eastern Alicante province, on the Costa Blanca and the club has recently acquired a Flicx Pitch which has provided a much more consistent playing surface for their matches and training.

Cricket in Spain is growing in popularity with ex-pats from all cricketing countries participating with a few natives sprinkled here and there, with Torrevieja participating in the East and Central cricket league which pits them against sides including Madrid CC, Valencia, La Manga, two teams from Alicante and Sporting L ’Alfas in 40 over and T20 matches. Facilities are varied from the high-quality provision at La Manga CC to clubs playing on coconut matting where the bounce isn’t consistent and there is no way of repairing any wear and tear on the surface. This was the case at Torrevieja who were very keen to investigate better alternatives which would make for higher quality matches.

After Madrid CC purchased a new 2G Flicx Pitch, enquiries were made by Torrevieja about using their old original Flicx Pitch and soon the roll out solution was being shipped to Torre’s ground which is a council owned “multi use” athletics track.

As you might expect with a grass surface of this nature and with its athletics applications, it can be fairly undulated especially in areas of high javelin and shot-put traffic, so the fact the Flicx pitch is firm and flat means that it mitigates these areas of unevenness. The pitch is rolled out and back up after each game and the grass is cut short at the venue following the purchase of a petrol- driven lawnmower by the club to supplement the council’s best efforts.

The quality of the matches since the acquisition of the Flicx Pitch is much higher so explains chairman Graham Shelton “We are really happy with the Flicx Pitch; the bounce is much more consistent than we were achieving previously and its quicker and more convenient to lay the pitch. With the modular tile layout, it has the added advantage of being able to easily replace any damaged tile quickly and cost effectively. We pretty much play all year round apart from when it’s raining when the pitch can become slippery and have already spoken to colleagues at other clubs around Spain where the Flicx Pitch would also be suitable and like us are ready to take cricket in the region to the next level”

Is your club looking to improve its facilities this season?

“We delighted to  go into what is now our second season with the 2G Flicx Pitch-  The new pitch has shown it is so much more versatile than its predecessor. The biggest development of all is that it can be used safely and successfully indoors-  thus making it a truly adaptable cricket pitch that can be used in both summer and winter.”

The discount deal coincides with the first Cricket Club Expo event taking place at Lord’s this Saturday where the pitch will be available for demo by visiting clubs. Feedback on the 2G Flicx Pitch which launched at the same series of events last year has been hugely positive with the key benefit being the versatility of the product which can be used both indoors and outdoors. The pitch is now manufactured in the UK which has cut down the delivery time quite considerably and you can bespoke your pitch with the addition of a sponsors logo or your choice of colours & design.

The performance benefits are there for both batters and bowlers to experience with a consistent bounce that supports both seam and spin bowling whilst the batters can play their shots in confidence. Popular applications remain using your Flicx Pitch to increase your junior capacity, to protect your main crease from overuse, to transform a field, astro or 3G pitch into a cricket facility or just wild and wacky games such as the Guinness World Record Breaking match which took place at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro.

As well as seeing the pitch for yourself at the three cricket expo events coming up in the next few weeks (register for free entry at http://www.cricketclubexpo.com ) , you can also read a number of testimonials on our website (www.flicx.co.uk) and blog or by connecting with us on social media.

2G Flicx Pitch, Harvard Cricket Club Case Study – Guest blog by Manik Kuchroo

In the United States, cricket is slowly but surely taking off. Though not quite as popular as it is in India, Australia or England, leagues such as American College Cricket (ACC) have been on the rise. Populous centers, such as New York, now have over 100 teams across 4 different state leagues.

With the advent of American College Cricket in 2009, over 70 colleges, including Harvard, have developed teams. Since cricket fields are not as numerous as clubs, a problem arises: where will all these teams play? Some teams in the ACC opted to play on field hockey fields with a long straight boundary and short square ones. Though Harvard played on the local Jordan Field Hockey field for a few years, we decided last year to look for a better option that could give the team a more authentic cricketing experience. Since building a full cricket field is expensive, we decided to look into drop in or roll out pitches in order to convert any field into a cricket field.

The 2G Flicx Pitch at Harvard CC

The 2G Flicx Pitch at Harvard CC

The search for a cheap, good surface to play cricket on led the team to the new 2G Flicx Pitch technology from Flicx UK. Initially, we were skeptical – could a synthetic roll out pitch really behave like a true turf wicket? After talking to a few other local players with experience with Flicx, the team decided to give it a shot. With the help of Mahindra USA, one of the Harvard Cricket Club’s sponsors, we purchased a 2G Flicx wicket. This was one of the best decisions the Club has made to date. After an initially period of up and down bounce in the first few games, we realized that if we rolled the pitch for just 15 minutes before the game, the bounce became even, consistent and true. Furthermore, it did not slip when attached to either synthetic of grass surfaces.

We now play most of our games on the  2G Flicx pitch and are able to experience cricket as it should be – on a true ground with a true pitch. This experience has helped us improve tremendously over other local teams in the area. Currently ranked third in the nation, the Harvard Cricket Club now heads to the collegiate cricket nationals in March as one of the favourites to win the tournament.

Flicx UK would like to thank Manik Kuchroo, President and Captain of the Harvard Cricket Club for writing this blog for us – you can find more information about his team via their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/HarvardCricketClub or website www.harvardcricket.org
