To celebrate our 21st birthday we are launching a new worldwide competition, a “Flicx Pitch Pitch” open to all clubs and schools looking to use a new 2G Flicx Pitch to improve the quality of their cricket provision or create new teams or development programmes.
The competition is open until Sunday 17th June and all you need to do to enter is compile a short pitch of no more than 300 words and complete the competition entry form. To ENTER and for full T+C’s visit http://www.flicx.co.uk/competition/
The 2G Flicx Pitch is the world’s most versatile cricket pitch solution and has a multitude of applications. It can be used …
To convert a grass football or rugby field into a cricketing venue
Over a synthetic field
On the playground or other concrete bases
On the beach for beach cricket
In the nets to upgrade worn or under performing synthetic surfaces
For indoor cricket
On the outfield to host multiple junior matches
As a second or third square to protect your turf wicket and many many more
To all cricket clubs, colleges and academies in the USA, we have some good news which makes purchasing a 2G Flicx Pitch even more cost effective than previous seasons. Flicx UK are offering £300 towards the shipping of a full match pitch and £150 towards the shipping of any batting end. Typical quotes are £520-£535 for a match pitch so the customer contribution is typically only £220 approximately.
The 2G Flicx Pitch is a game changer for cricket participation in the States. We have fantastic case studies from clubs and colleges that have used our portable, versatile pitch to play cricket matches either by rolling it out onto a synthetic surface, baseball square or using public grass fields thus solving their facility problem, when it’s not possible to curate a turf wicket.
The 2G Flicx Pitch is a portable, roll out – roll up solution so it ticks the boxes for those looking to play in parks or open spaces as the pitch can be rolled out just before the game and there is no damage to the under surface. Cricket academies have seen huge benefit in using batting ends to develop their talent whilst the pitch is also commonly laid on concrete or synthetic turf fields to convert them into cricketing venues.
Players and clubs always point to the increase in the match quality with the 2G Flicx Pitch. It provides a grippy surface where the ball comes onto the bat nicely, favouring neither the batters or bowlers.
“We take immense pride in providing the Beehive State with a pitch which enhances the scope of cricket in Utah to the next level. Our new pitch allows an even playing field for the batsman and bowlers, helps the youngsters develop their skills as well as provides a set-up for adults to hone their skills. We truly believe that the 2G Flicx is to play a catalyst for us as a club to reach one of our true goals and that is to create opportunities for more people to enjoy the global game!!” – Utah Lions
“We chose the 2G Flicx Pitch because it’s a portable solution and means Novel Sports can set up a cricket experience centre at various locations for all to enjoy. We have already found that kids are very motivated to play on artificial surfaces such as the Flicx Pitch as it offers a good bounce and spin” – Novel Sports (Trinidad)
Interest is at a record high in the states as Flicx are able to offer more competitive shipping rates than previously. View our range of 2G Flicx Pitches or Click Here to get a quote of your club or school including US shipping charges
If you are looking to create additional cricket capacity for your club or school and you have a grass field that is traditionally used for rugby or football during the winter, then the 2G Flicx Pitch could be your solution.
This was the exact predicament for Windsor Boys school, where their cricket programme had outgrown the number of turf wickets available on site for matches and practice. With the grass cut down short in the middle, (rolling would be beneficial too), a 2G Flicx Pitch was rolled out on top and a new facility created. The pictures below show senior boys who are all club cricketers playing a game on the 2G Flicx Pitch and you can see how the bowlers have good purchase off the surface and there is excellent pace and bounce.
This application is the most popular application of our pitch especially in countries like the UK, New Zealand, the USA and Australia. In Australia it could be AFL ovals being converted and in New Zealand at the moment, cricket facilities are at a premium so this method of converting grass fields is very popular.
The benefit of the new 2G Flicx Pitch product is that is multi purpose so the same pitch seen here can then be rolled up after the game and used in the nets (both grass and on synthetic surfaces), or split in the middle to create two batting ends for junior Kwik cricket or then used inside for winter nets or on the playground or concrete surfaces too. This versatility gives great value for money for the customer and means cricket can be taken to new audiences which is especially important given the popularity of T20 cricket and the need for more informal cricket options.
Schools or clubs with capacity issues now have a solution that is easy to create and virtually maintenance free. We would recommend the pitch is rolled up after each game and just rolled out an hour before the game to give it time to settle and for the tiles feet to mould to the under surface. If you could give more details on this application and its suitability for your requirements, feel free to give one of our pitch advisers a call on 01295 816765.
The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) led by the President Mr. LALIT KUMAR MODI (Founder & Architect of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE) aspires to embed cricket into the culture and passion of the people of Rajasthan and spread it to all 33 districts, no mean feat given it’s amongst the largest state in India and equivalent in size to the United Kingdom!
A senior tournament played on a 2G Flicx Pitch in DHOLPUR
Prior to the purchase of 70 2G Flicx batting ends, across two orders in 2016, facilities across (17 to 20 Districts) Rajasthan were minimal and of poor quality, particularly in remote areas so talent was unable to be developed and nurtured. The RCA have now issued two Batting Ends, which can zip together at the middle and form a full 2G Flicx Match Pitch, to each districts to utilise to create a local hub of excellence. Of those 33 districts, over half did not have any existing turf facilities so typically only matting was used so now with the arrival of the 2G Flicx Pitches, players and coaches alike have a surface which feels much more authentic and genuine. In these developing areas, more participation is possible and the game is already started to significantly grow in popularity after just a couple of months of using 2G Flicx Pitches.
The President RCA Mr. Lalit Kumar Modi insisted that we have a look at the ICC Dubai Academy. So, RCA Treasurer Pawan Goyal along with RCA Secretary Sumendra Tiwari first spotted the 2G Flicx Pitches on a trip to the ICC Academy in Dubai; at the time they were rolled up on their ends being stored but Goyal immediately spoke to key figures at the ICC about how they use the product in their development programmes and saw a huge opportunity for the pitches to be used to support the objectives of the RCA in helping the game to flourish. Price was a key consideration for the RCA board and a 2G Flicx Pitch can typically be delivered for 1/3 of the cost of turf wickets in India but other important benefits for Goyal and his colleagues included…
Zero maintenance costs
Durability; Flicx pitches have a very long life span so no need to replace frequently
All weather surface – can even be used if it’s raining
The ability to roll them up after matches to store them safely
To take cricket to places where it’s not possible to curate turf wickets
The 2G Flicx Pitches, all hand made in the UK, are each used on a daily basis for both adult and junior cricket. All the reports from RCA districts have been highly positive and everyone has found the wickets very comfortable for practice sessions in the nets (where they are split into Batting Ends) and also for matches where they are typically converting open areas into cricket fields. Already there are more people playing cricket and each location typically attracts up to 200 to 250 players per day. More importantly, competition is now possible and much more practical to administer with the state championship games taking place on a “level playing field”.
Goyal is confident that the 2G Flicx Pitch can play a big role in developing new cricket facilities across India be it in partnership with other State Cricket Associations, in districts or by schools looking to create new training zones.
“I see big potential for Flicx in India and other countries where new facilities need to be created in a cost effective way. We are really happy with how our pitches stationed across Rajasthan are performing and think there will be a huge appetite for this roll out concept, in other states too. We are happy to help more people play cricket on a surface which performs really well in subcontinent conditions and it really gives our young players the best possible start to their cricketing journeys”.
Flicx UK, creators of the 2G Flicx Pitch, have now expanded their product range to incorporate Sports Courts in Tennis, Netball and Multi sport use. Courts can be made to any size or colour specification and branding can be added which will appeal to sponsors looking for innovation activation and PR opportunities.
Recently for Sportfest 2016 held at Wormsley, we rolled out our first 2G Flicx Tennis court which coaching company Premier Tennis used all weekend to deliver their program on. It was enjoyed by adult and kids alike with Jeff Hunter, Managing Director, commenting
” I think the surface has performed really well. We have had 500 or so kids on and off the court and some adults too getting stuck in. The court stayed firmly in place, the bounce has been true; its been a really good addition to our program”
In addition to pop up events – where grass fields, artificial surfaces, concrete or beaches could be converted into tennis courts, we also have a cost effective solution to tennis court resurfacing projects. The 2G Flicx tile is durable and has a life span 3 times that of tarmac courts making it very cost effective. Take a look at our fully installed multi sport court that The Lettuce Company use to keep their workforce active.
Flicx UK, have recently installed their first 2G Flicx Court which is a premium sports flooring surface which has multi sport capabilities with our first client The Lettuce Company based in West Sussex maximising its versatility and using their court for basketball, tennis and volleyball. Take a watch at the installation itself condensed down in this time-lapse video
The Lettuce Company is a large farm with 120 farm labourers living on site. They specialise in growing a range of salad vegetables including lettuce, rocket, and spinach. Richard Smith is the production manager and he was looking for a way to provide sports facilities for their staff on site and asked Flicx UK to quote for a multi use Flicx court.
Made in the same tiles as the 2G Flicx Pitch, the 2G Flicx Court combines a none slip surface in a range of colours. The size can be made to any specification with line markings added to create versatility and host a range of sports. The court can be used both indoors or outdoors and can be kept as a portable court and rolled out for each use OR as in this case study, laid permanently.
Speaking about their new 2G Flicx Court, Richard Smith from The Lettuce Company said “We are delighted with our new facility that Flicx have been able to create for us. We had a set space and Flicx were able to design a court to fit our requirements. The quality of the installation and advice throughout the process was first class from all the team at Flicx and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their product for anyone looking for a versatile sports surface”
Managing director Richard Beghin added “With 18 years in the industry, it’s great to be able to continue to develop new products and fulfil new requests. We are very excited about the potential of this product and especially with our digital branding capabilities, its a great way for companies to invest in something that can create an active and happy workforce or for NGB’s to take their sports to new audiences”
Take a look at our brand new digital printing capabilities which mean you can brand your 2G Flicx Pitch to include your school or club logo OR sell the space onto a sponsor to help raise funds. Here is a recent example produced for the new pitch at Kings College School in Cambridge.
Furthermore we are seeing increased interest from corporate brands looking to use 2G Flicx Pitches as part of their sponsorship activation… watch this space for more on this! The branding can in theory be added to the pitch at any size with our standard size being 1100 x 600mm at a cost of £250. Larger logos and branding across the whole pitch can be quoted with a very fast turnaround time possible.

As well as helping to transform grass fields to cricket facilities or one of the many other applications of the worlds most versatile cricket pitch, it remains a very popular way to create your very own Lords in your own back yard or garden … Here are some of the most commonly asked questions
Flicx Home Academy
What is a Flicx Home Academy?
The Flicx Home Academy is a cricket training set up for the home environment which allows young players to hone their techniques without any damage to the surrounding areas. Typically the home academy package is made up of a 2G Flicx Batting End (10, 7 or 4m), a cricket net system and a bowling machine. Players can play and practice their batting or bowling techniques at a realistic intensity on a pitch which delivers a consistent bounce.
2. How should the pitch be installed and secured in the garden environment?
Flicx UK recommend some initial preparation of the ground to ensure the best possible performance. By that we mean ..
cutting the grass very short
level of all high spots and fill in hollows with a suitable clay based loam
It does not require to be secured by nails or anything else. It can be settled on to the surface by just walking up and down on it. Laying it in this way will give excellent performance straight away. We provide full installation and maintenance guidance
3. Can the pitch be laid and then left for the whole summer? What is the performance like …
Yes the pitch can be rolled out and left for the whole summer but for the home environment (unless a roller is available to go over the pitch) it is best to roll up the pitch each week and cut the grass again (low to the roots). The growing grass tends to lift the pitch off the ground.
4. How heavy is a 2G Flicx batting end? Will one adult be able to move it on their own?
The 10m batting end is 67 kgs, the 7.5m batting end is 40 kgs whilst the 4m throwdown is 20 kgs. The 7.5m and the 4m products can be easily moved by 1 adult. Flicx recommend that the 10m batting end is transported on the Flicx safety trolley.
Straps are provided to fix the pitch in a roll. Whilst rolled up we would recommend that the pitch is stored in a garage or shed if possible.
5. What do customers say about the Flicx home academy?
“The Flicx Home Academy is a great system for the development of your game in the safety of your own home. I would certainly recommend it for all up and coming cricketers. It is ideal to have as pre season and post season training.”- Jimmy Cook – ex South African Test Cricketer and previous coach for Hampshire (also father to Stephen Cook who recently scored a test century on debut against England)
Initial good ground preparation is paramount to getting the best performance from the 2G Flicx pitch, it needs to be level in terms of high spots and low spots with very short grass. You can choose from any of the 3 Flicx Pitch designs with various colours and branding options also available.

BatFast is the brainchild of high school friends Runish Gudhka and Jignesh Patel. The innovative new company has developed an interactive cricket simulator which allows you to face the pace of Mitchell Johnson to the spin of Shane Warne. Their mission is to always keep player engagement as the primary focus.
The BatFast products are all the result of observing and analysing the game and how it is played by club players and top professionals, combined with their technical expertise, and the system is perfect for cricket fan zones, sponsors engagement activities and taking cricket to new audiences.
Unlike a bowling machine, BATFAST cricket simulators allow you to experience the real emotion of being an international batsmen! Their precise technology times the ball release exactly in-sync with the bowling actions of the cricketers you are facing on the screen. Cameras flashing, crowds cheering, instant replays and post-match interviews as well as opposition sledging ensure this is a truly authentic cricketing experience so naturally Flicx UK were delighted to be approached by Gudhka and his team in terms of selecting a portable pitch which could deliver a consistent bounce on a wide variety of under surfaces.
“As a business, we always realised how important it would be for us to go to cricket fans, rather than them having to come to us. This meant we designed our simulators for 100% portability. Having done this, we required a supplier who could provide high quality portable pitches that would replicate a realistic experience. Working with Flicx was a no brainer due to their outstanding reputation, experience in the marketplace, dedication to quality, affordable prices and impeccable customer service. ”
The time lapse video below shows the BatFast system including their 2G Flicx Eagle eyed pitch being set up whilst feedback so far suggests that the pitch is performing exceptionally well.
“In the test runs we have done so far, the Flicx pitch has been easy to set up, use and pack up. This is vital as it saves us time and expense which we can pass onto the customer. In terms of consistency, the Flicx pitch has been really well received by our batters, making batting fun and enjoyable. Going forward we are confident Flicx pitches will allow our experience to be enjoyed, as it was designed to be.”
BatFast will be available to rent from 1 April 2016 (with advanced bookings and early bird details available) and Flicx UK marketing manager Kate Costin already sees a lot of opportunities for the simulator system “The great thing about BatFast is that it can be hired and transported anywhere making it equally great to use at cricket matches as in city centres thus allowing sponsors and clubs to market the game to a new audience. Being so interactive, BatFast creates memories by allowing participants to play against the best players in the world which is inspiring for kids and adults like … like the Flicx Pitch it is sure to take cricket to places it has never been played before and we are delighted that they will be playing on a 2G Flicx Pitch”

Flicx UK loaned a 2G Flicx skills pitch to the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation for the second year in a row to support their Beach Cricket Festival. 9 teams took part in the summer extravaganza on Scarborough Beach and organiser Nick Robinson was quietly thrilled by the tournament: “We’d like to grow it to the point of having another pitch – we had lots of interest from people on the beach asking if their son could join in, and we had plenty of clubs who didn’t register in time. We want to raise the profile of Yorkshire cricket, but the biggest emphasis is on having a good time.”
The tournament, now in its second year has been a very successful addition to the iconic Scarborough Cricket festival. The primary aim, to give children from local communities and beyond, the opportunity to play a round robin cricket competition by the sea, followed by the chance to watch their heroes play at Scarborough later in the week.
The guardian newspaper picked up on the story with the great slant on how this innovative form of the game could be developed further by the ECB says new chief executive Tom Harrison “We are looking at more informal ways of playing cricket, for example beach cricket during the summer holidays, backyard cricket (if you are lucky enough to have one), cricket in the street, car park, whatever,” Harrison says. “The idea is to strip the idea of privilege and get cricket back to a bat and ball. If we connect in this way then our very multicultural society has more chance of connecting with the game.
“It needs more fleshing out but we are working with Chance to Shine to make this something more than another ECB campaign and more of a philosophy of how we want to pitch the game to a far broader audience.”
Beach cricket is another string to the bow of the 2G Flicx Pitch which is carving a reputation for being the most versatile cricket pitch on the market. “Its low maintenance, portable, roll out roll up nature means that its perfect for taking cricket to places it has never been played before says Flicx UK’s marketing manager Kate Costin. Case studies of other applications can be found on the flicx.co.uk website or by watching this video
