HOW TO | Store your 2G Flicx Pitch to ensure maximum performance and longvevity

Storing your 2G Flicx Pitch correctly will ensure maximum performance. The 2G Flicx Pitch should always be stored UPRIGHT and ON IT’S END and very tightly rolled. You should use the always use the Flicx Safety trolled supplied with the pitch to move it and you can keep it stored on the trolley for ease of transportation and when storing in your kit cupboard/storeroom/shed/groundsmans hut. Ashley Appleby explains more…

In this way the pitch will only take up 50 X 50cm in your storeroom (height of 1.8m) and when you roll it out again for your next match or training session, the pitch will not be wavy and will settle onto the under surface quickly (we recommend rolling your pitch out 30-45 minutes before use).

STORAGE RECAP

  • Store inside when the pitch is not in use
  • Roll up tightly and strap
  • Store upright on its end (you can keep it on the Flicx safety trolley supplied)

By following these steps you will get the best performance from your 2G Flicx Pitch season after season.

A 2G Flicx Pitch arrives as 2 half pitch batting ends of ease of use. They just clip and zip together in the middle to form your full match pitch

HOW TO | Roll up your 2G Flicx Pitch correctly

It’s highly important to roll your 2G Flicx Pitch back up tightly after use and store in a coil shape. Follow these top tips to get the maximum performance from your portable pitch. Unlike the original Flicx Pitch, the new 2G Flicx Pitch is softer and much easier to use. The upgrades to the surface have resulted in more versatility in terms of pitch applications but also advice that the 2G Flicx Pitch should be used as a roll out, roll up surface rather than permanently laid.

Here our business development manager Ashley Appleby, shows you how to roll back up your 2G Flicx Pitch correctly after use.

ROLL UP RECAP

  • Unzip the full match pitch into two batting ends
  • Insert two straps under the pitch
  • Roll the pitch back up from crease to the middle
  • Roll as tightly as possible into a coil and keep square
  • Strap up and tie together for safety

By following these steps you will get the best performance from your 2G Flicx Pitch season after season.

4 matches hosted on 1 cricket oval at Dean Headley’s Sport Bash festival!

2G Flicx Pitches were used to host a Kwik cricket festival at Ketton Sports Club last Friday as part of former England Cricketer Dean Headley’s Sport Bash event. This fun filled family sports day supports The Matt Hampson Foundation. Four 2G Flicx Batting Ends (two beige and two green) were placed on the outfield and the only preparation required was to cut the grass short under the wickets. These portable, roll out wickets hosted the BGL Kwik Cricket Cup and Plate over the course of the day.

Organiser Dean Headley is familiar with the 2G Flicx Pitch as his school Stamford purchased one around 6 months ago and for Sport Bash Headley was looking to solve a few issues and hence turned to Flicx …

’’With the growing number of teams that entered this years BGL Kwik Cricket festival at Sport Bash 2018 we needed to increase capacity on the Ketton Cricket Club oval to help increase growing participation, the additional cricket fields created by dividing the oval into 4 smaller fields. Using the 2G Flicx cricket pitch was huge successful with players, coaches and parents alike all having a great time.

The true bounce off the 2G Flicx cricket pitches ensured that loads of runs was scored and the fact that you can just roll these wickets out in the outfield after cutting the grass short meant that the ground staff were not overworked by having to cut, roll and paint wickets where the bounce would not have been as good as it was on the day using the Flicx cricket pitches.’’

After a great day of cricket Uppingham U9’s won the final by 14 runs whilst Stamford U9’s won the Plate Final against Bourne. This ground utilisation concept was described by Ashley Appleby in #AskAsh and it’s becoming a common request from national and local cricket associations looking to boost participation in areas of limited space. 1 oval can be divided in 2,3 or 4 junior cricket pitches.

Women’s softball cricket festivals are bolder in blue

Flicx UK were very proud to be part of the Women’s Soft Ball cricket festival this weekend. Matches at the Beaconsfield festival were hosted on blue 2G Flicx cricket pitches where we supplied 3 x 10m batting ends which were used to divide the main cricket oval into 3 smaller cricket fields for the mini games.

In order to prepare the area, the groundsman at Beaconsfield cut the grass short and then on the morning of the tournament the blue pitches were rolled out and given a short time to settle. No pain, all gain! Soft Ball Cricket is a new, fun, fast, social game from the ECB for all abilities where the games are played using a soft ball so no need for pads, helmets etc – its very easy to just turn up and play. Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festivals are taking place throughout this summer during the ICC Women’s World Cup and offer a new route into cricket especially for beginners.

Warwick School Tournament, Middlesex in the Community and get your game started quicker

Just a few recent images from events involving the 2G Flicx Pitch to share…

Warwick School cricket festival

Warwick School cricket festival was a massive success. Flicx UK were very happy to help facilitate the many 8 over matches on the outfield using our blue 2G Flicx 10m batting ends. The format allowed for softball cricket in the morning then hardball cricket in the afternoon (the new 2G Flicx pitch makes it possible to use both types of balls). To use the 2G Flicx Pitch on your outfield, you simply need to cut the grass down short (10-15mm) then roll the pitch out on top.

Warwick School used their two 2G Flicx Skills batting ends for 2 of the matches, whilst Flicx brought two additional blue batting ends for the other games.

Middlesex in the Community

In recent weeks the Middlesex participation team have been out and about using their Pinky’s Pavillion 2G Flicx Pitch at various events, laid on various under surfaces. Events have included the Middlesex Schools day at Lord’s, Allstar’s Cricket at the Westminster Mile and most recently at a pop up event in Hounslow town centre. Not only is the pitch versatile and portable, but it also adds alot of fun and excitement to the Middlesex events programme with the coaching tiles, helping to focus the attention of bowlers when pitching the ball.

Product Development

New upgraded 1/4 2G tiles in the crease has made a big difference in terms of the speed the 2G Flicx Pitch settles. The pitch now settles in half the time and flattens instantly allowing games to commence faster than previously. We recommend you lay the pitch an hour before use although the condition of the under surface and the weather will both impact on how quickly it reaches optimum pace and bounce.

Pitching In … Our take on recent developments in the structure of youth cricket

Cricket is undoubtedly changing. Day/night test matches, a £1.7m fee for Ben Stokes at the IPL auction, flashing stumps and big sponsors but perhaps the biggest changes in the game currently are occurring globally at grass roots levels. In the UK, the ECB has just launched All Star’s Cricket (a mass participation program providing children aged five to eight with a great first experience in cricket) whilst down under Cricket Australia has just announced some major changes to their junior game formats following a successful nationwide pilot program where children played on shorter pitches in smaller teams.

“The changes provide more appropriate game formats, pitch length and number of players on the field for children at various stages of their development and experience,” said former national captain Belinda Clark.

The obvious aim of these initiatives is to boost participation; but at the same time, we see much more strain on facilities with clubs replying – “great but where are they going to play”. Some clubs cannot easily accommodate more juniors and you all too frequently hear of housing developments on playing fields and there has been a rise in the popularity of all weather, synthetic pitches for football and rugby. The cost, time and expertise to maintain a turf wicket are considerable and so it’s no surprise that the popularity of wickets such as the 2G Flicx Pitch has rapidly grown in recent seasons, coinciding with the advent of our new and improved tile which makes the pitch more versatile with good pace and bounce on a range of under-surfaces. Furthermore, our new multi age pitch means that you can used the same pitch for adults, colts and juniors just by moving the stumps from 20.12 to 18.12 to 16.12 metres (something that can be applied to new Australia pitch lengths too).

Converting grass fields which are typically rugby or football fields into cricket pitches for the season is a popular application whilst we are also seeing clubs laying the 2G Flicx Pitch on old or worn astro strips to give them a new lease of life. The cost of our portable 2G Flicx Pitch solution vs an average NPT is 1/3 so it’s really a no brainer in terms of adding additional playing and training capacity more cost effectively plus the surfaces last for years. One match pitch can be moved by one person using our safety trolley and then easily split into two batting ends which can be laid on the outfield for Kwik cricket. Preparation time is shortly and maintenance minimal and the softer 2G tile offers excellent grip and good seam and spin performance.

In our busy lives, statistics are saying that we no longer have time to give up our whole Sunday to play cricket and shorter formats of the game are becoming more popular or more informal cricket utilising different spaces for example on beaches, playgrounds and car parks. Having taken cricket to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro, the 2G Flicx Pitch really is a product that means you can play anywhere. Likewise, bright colours and branding options are helping to attract and retain kids in the sport, whilst developing their batting and bowling skills with visual targets. Perhaps the day when we see a T20 game taking place on an artificial wicket isn’t too far away after all and hopefully it’s something that the traditionalist will in time be able to embrace as the future success of the game, could depend on it.

Flicx fix a portable solution for Coimbra Knights CC

Coimbra Knights Cricket Club are a social cricket club based in Coimbra, Central Portugal. They openly welcome touring teams from Germany, Russia and the UK as well as playing fixtures against teams in Porto and Lisbon. In addition to their home ground located centrally in the city they also play at other stadiums around the city and so for this reason Barrie Knowles the club president was looking for versatile pitch that would perform well on both grass and rubbercrumb and could be easily transported around.

Vagabonds CC Portugal Tour 2016

The 2G Flicx Pitch was the obvious choice for Coimbra and the pitch was ordered in April 2016. The pitch is left down only when the team have fixtures closely following each game and during the short winters here otherwise it is roll out and back up after matches then stored rolled up, vertically. (It is handily supplied in two equal halves by the way so it’s no problem to move or transport).
Knowles and his colleagues are delighted with their purchase.

“Our 2G Flicx Pitch has performed extremely really well so far and we have already used it on four different surfaces around the city. On grass the bounce was excellent where we pinned it down and then on three differing artificial surfaces (one which was a very old surface where the rubber was breaking up and two much newer surfaces) again we are very happy as the mat settled down nicely and quickly moulded to the under surface ahead of matches and training”

Teams that have toured Coimbra CC and have played on our new 2G Flicx Pitch have been equally impressed to the extent that Munich Cricket Club are now looking at purchasing one themselves and we are seeing more and more adult cricket clubs in Europe looking to Flicx to solve their facility issues indeed Coimbra CC are currently fundraising to extend their standard match pitch into an extra length pitch of 28.12 x 1.8m to add run offs for their bowlers onto each end of their pitch. These extensions will just clip into place without creating any bobbles or lifts – the new sections will sit perfectly flush against the existing tiles.

Flicx UK were delighted to supply the Sydney Sixers with five magenta pink 4.5m x 1.4m mini cricket pitches for their recent community programme the Sixers Beach Blast. Ahead of the new BBL season, the Sixers took to the road for an exciting new community activation programme, which saw coaches host cricket clinics for boys and girls with some special guest appearances. The 2G Flicx Pitches were rolled out on the various beach locations down the NSW coastline, providing an attractive playing surface with a good bounce and obviously pitch markings and Sixers branding too.

“ The Sydney Sixers Beach Blast program saw the Sydney Sixers reach approximately 1100 kids up and down our sixers coastline and engaged these kids in a really fun and exciting beach cricket clinic! Prior to the event started I liaised with Gary from Flicx UK who was able to create the pitches for our tour which was vital in it going ahead. Gary and the Flicx team were a pleasure to work with and met every need and requirement to ensure the pitches were correctly coloured and would arrive in time for the event.

The kids absolutely loved playing on the 2G Flicx pitches with parents and families all wanting to take photos! If it wasn’t for the pitches our tour would not have been the success that it was and the team here at the Sixers will be utilising them further with our community events, clinics and for our Fan Day here at the SCG and throughout the season”Liz McPherson / Fan, Activation and Community Manager
