Coimbra Knights Cricket Club are a social cricket club based in Coimbra, Central Portugal. They openly welcome touring teams from Germany, Russia and the UK as well as playing fixtures against teams in Porto and Lisbon. In addition to their home ground located centrally in the city they also play at other stadiums around the city and so for this reason Barrie Knowles the club president was looking for versatile pitch that would perform well on both grass and rubbercrumb and could be easily transported around.
The 2G Flicx Pitch was the obvious choice for Coimbra and the pitch was ordered in April 2016. The pitch is left down only when the team have fixtures closely following each game and during the short winters here otherwise it is roll out and back up after matches then stored rolled up, vertically. (It is handily supplied in two equal halves by the way so it’s no problem to move or transport).
Knowles and his colleagues are delighted with their purchase.
“Our 2G Flicx Pitch has performed extremely really well so far and we have already used it on four different surfaces around the city. On grass the bounce was excellent where we pinned it down and then on three differing artificial surfaces (one which was a very old surface where the rubber was breaking up and two much newer surfaces) again we are very happy as the mat settled down nicely and quickly moulded to the under surface ahead of matches and training”
Teams that have toured Coimbra CC and have played on our new 2G Flicx Pitch have been equally impressed to the extent that Munich Cricket Club are now looking at purchasing one themselves and we are seeing more and more adult cricket clubs in Europe looking to Flicx to solve their facility issues indeed Coimbra CC are currently fundraising to extend their standard match pitch into an extra length pitch of 28.12 x 1.8m to add run offs for their bowlers onto each end of their pitch. These extensions will just clip into place without creating any bobbles or lifts – the new sections will sit perfectly flush against the existing tiles.
